Public Storage
Sometimes when people move from one home to another, the first
deal closes before the second falls into place. That leaves them with
no place to live for a few weeks or months. While the family can rent
an apartment or stay with friends or family temporarily, there may not
be room for all their possessions and furniture. That is when you may
want to consider using public storage.
Also called self-storage, these units are found in hundreds of
locations around the country, often in a suburb or near the city limits
to permit easy entrance and exit traffic. Similar to a garage with
about the same amount of square footage as a shed, public storage
offers plenty of room for things like furniture, tools, equipment, a
piano or harp, boxes of books or papers, clothing, bicycles, a dog
house, or just about anything else you might need to put away for
awhile.
These units are kept clean and come in a variety of sizes. You don’t
have to pay for a large storage area if a smaller one will do. Prices
vary, according to the amount of space you actually utilize.
Security takes the form of a sturdy lock for which only the renter has
a key. Some units offer additional security devices, such as a watch
person, patrol dogs, or noise and light sensors. Special alarms can be
placed on the units and equipped with alarms that ring directly at the
renter’s home or at the local police station.
Self-storage is not always a good idea for people who have accumulated
a lot of things that they don’t know what to do with. In such a case,
you will end up paying rent for storage space month after month with no
end in sight. Instead, you could have a yard sale and make money
instead of spend it.
